Combat deployment is a military assignment conducted in an active war zone. The combat mission is designed to fend off threats as well as to restore and maintain public safety. The terrain can vary greatly, depending on the area of operation. It may range from urban areas to remote locations with rough terrain. The ideal footwear for combat missions has a stable upper that supports the ankle and provides a high level of comfort even during extended engagements. Patrols cover a limited area. They are used to conduct exploration, reconnaissance or security missions. The location and length of such missions vary tremendously, a fact that places tremendous demands on mission equipment, particularly the footwear. Challenging terrain (like the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan), frequent kneeling as well as good mobility and responsiveness require tough, but lightweight boots that offer moderate sole rigidity and provide solid support to the ligaments and tendons.

Desert warfare is a military assignment carried out in very arid regions where the temperature fluctuates sharply. The objective of desert missions is exploration, reconnaissance, security or combat in very arid regions. The terrain is frequently very dry and dusty, while the temperature of the ground will rise and fall sharply. These are qualities requiring heat-dissipating materials and good breathability to regulate the temperature of the footwear. The boots must have soles that offer good grip in dust and sand as well as a stable upper to prevent wearers from turning their ankles on terrain covered by deep sand.

Parachuting involves a range of different jumps from aeroplanes to introduce troops to areas of operation. Such missions can involve jumps made at low altitudes with round parachutes that open automatically or military freefalls with parafoils and occasionally heavy rucksacks. Parachuting places some special demands on footwear worn during such missions. Important features include closed hooks to prevent the hooks from becoming caught in suspension lines, good heel cushioning and a stable upper to prevent injuries during landing.

Thanks to the two-zone lacing system used in the ELITE EVO N, the forefoot and upper have their own separately adjustable lacing zones. As a result, the shoe can be individually adapted to the anatomy of the foot and laced in different ways for ascents and descents.

Polyurethane (PU) is a soft plastic that has very good cushioning properties and is usually used in the midsole as a result. Through the use of PU, the soles become lightweight and functionally flexible.
Viscoelastic latex foam
Viscoelastic latex foam is made of a remarkable polymer that lends a special form memory to the foam. Once body heat or pressure is applied to the viscoelastic foam, the foam adapts exactly to these particular contours. This feature equally distributes pressure and eases stress on the feet.
Polyester is synthetic plastic fibre made from crude oil. In chemical terms, it is a polymer that can be processed into many different materials. Thanks to its chemical flexibility, polyester is lightweight, dries quickly, does not shrink and has the highest levels of tear and abrasion resistance.
Mesh is a material that consists of many evenly spaced holes. It is usually made of polyester or nylon and basically a lattice-like material that is created by interwoven threads. Thanks to its special design, the man-made fibre is particularly permeable to air, has special moisture-regulating qualities and is easy to care for, breathable and crease-resistant.
Nubuck leather is a full-grain leather that is slightly sanded, a process that lends a velvety look to the leather. Nubuck leather is especially durable, robust and open-pored. Depending on the desired look, nubuck leather can remain untreated or be oiled or waxed.

Service & accessories
LOWA boots sold in the MOUNTAINEERING and TREKKING categories are designed in a way during the development phase that they can be resoled. This process will extend their service life and make a strong contribution to sustainability.
Right at the development stage, our footwear is designed in such a way that the seams for the different parts of the upper are equal to the demands placed on them. But even with the greatest of care, seams can of course still come apart. Torn or worn seams can be repaired without any difficulty at our service workshop.
Heel lining repair
The heel lining is one of the parts of a shoe that are subject to the most stress. Even with quality materials, chafing and signs of wear can of course still occur. The heel lining for leather and GORE-TEX footwear can be repaired without any difficulty at our service workshop.
Hooks, loops and eyelets are essential for lacing and putting on all types of footwear. Even with the biggest selection of material, individual parts can still break, tear or fall apart. Our service workshop can repair all that in house.
