08.03.2022 | One of Europe's most successful outdoor shoes celebrates its anniversary! A quarter of a century ago, LOWA launched its successful RENEGADE model onto the market. Since then, the cult shoe has sold more than twelve million units in countless variations: As a MID-CUT and as a low-cut shoe, waterproof or with a leather lining, an everyday shoe or a comfortable companion for day tours. And there is no end in sight to this success story.

In 1997, LOWA legend Werner Riethmann and his development team took the plunge. They worked on a new production method for hiking boots to make them much lighter and more flexible. What had previously only been common practice in other shoe segments formed the cornerstone of a new generation of shoes. For the first time, LOWA produced a shoe in which the sole was no longer glued but directly moulded on - the birth of the RENEGADE. Together with the unique fit, the shoe quickly established itself on the European market and developed into a long-distance runner. Hardly any other model has been produced as long and as successfully as the "rebel" from Jetzendorf.

To mark the anniversary, LOWA is presenting two mid-height anniversary models for men and women. The women's version comes in smoke blue with a matching Vibram® sole and GORE-TEX equipment. The men's model is also weatherproof in forest orange with a light-coloured tread. In total, LOWA currently has around 40 colour variants of the RENEGADE in its range. These are complemented by versions with wide and narrow lasts.

LARGE-SCALE ANNIVERSARY CAMPAIGN

LOWA is accompanying its 25th anniversary in German-speaking countries from March to May with a wide-ranging advertising and marketing campaign in high-reach, relevant magazines, with out-of-home measures and a postcard campaign. The company is launching a major online photo contest under the motto "Be your own RENEGADE" on its website and the relevant social media channels.

"LOWA has set standards in the industry with the RENEGADE. Its lightness, good fit and wide range of uses have made it so popular," says Alexander Nicolai, Managing Director of LOWA Sportschuhe GmbH. "These characteristics have won over millions of customers over 25 years, who have made the model their favourite outdoor shoe. There are therefore good reasons to celebrate the anniversary with a large-scale advertising and marketing campaign."
