"Made in Europe" - with one exception

As one of the industry leaders, LOWA consciously relies on "Made in Europe" in the age of globalisation in order to guarantee the best product quality, fair wages and social security for employees. This is ensured by our "Code of Conduct".

Through the social, environmental and governance standards listed in the LOWA Code of Conduct, we commit all our business partners to fair and responsible production processes. It regulates social issues, environmental and health protection concerns and occupational safety requirements.

European production ensures that LOWA retains comprehensive expertise and control over the technologies in its own hands. In addition, the company is able to meet significantly shorter delivery times. Another crucial point is the consistent quality control at every single stage of production.

Why we produce in Europe

Maintaining technological expertise: The development and production of high-quality outdoor footwear is a complex process that requires a great deal of manual labour. By producing in Europe, the proximity of production to the research and development department is guaranteed at all times. For example, a completely new prototype can be produced at the Jetzendorf site within one day.

Lower transport costs and emissions: Over 50 per cent of LOWA's export countries are in Europe. The proximity of the production plants to LOWA's main markets in Europe guarantees short transport routes. This reduces emissions and saves high transport costs.

Control of the value chain: By producing in Europe, LOWA has influence over the entire value chain. Since July 2019, almost 95 per cent of production capacity has been covered by wholly-owned LOWA subsidiaries.

LOWA's business philosophy can therefore be summarised in three words: "Made in Europe". We have no plans to change this.

ATR by LOWA - Made in Vietnam

For our ALL TERRAIN RUNNING line (ATR), we are currently forced to make an exception to this rule. The reason for this is quite simple: the type of EVA midsoles required for the trail running shoe, the upper material and the corresponding materials are not (yet) available in Europe. The new shoes are manufactured by a partner company in Vietnam - naturally in accordance with our own LOWA Code of Conduct, i.e. the same high ethical, ecological and social standards apply here as in our European production facilities.

We attach great importance to transparency in our relationship with our customers. For this reason, we have deliberately differentiated the segment from our core brand and named it "ATR by LOWA". However, the quality, environmental and social standards that our ATR shoes must fulfil are the same as for all our products.
