Technologies for Mountaineering Innovation at the highest level.

Mountaineering covers all activities that extend beyond classic mountain climbing. It includes everything from basic entry-level approaches, via ferrata and high-altitude tours to expeditions in the form of discovery and research journeys to remote and uncharted regions. It also involves winter mountain climbing, an athletic activity that sets itself apart from classic mountain climbing because of the cold, icy conditions under which climbers perform it. Footwear for the world’s highest mountains is high-end mountain boots and approach boots. Optimised for high-altitude tours, mixed terrain and demanding via ferrata, they also come with crampon welts for state-of-the-art binding systems. The collection is complemented by expedition boots designed for tours up to 8,000 metres.

Approaches Perfectly optimised for the hike to the wall.

“I regard the approach as well as the tour and the actual climbing as part of the same experience. You wake up and warm up.”

Climbing zone A few rocky passages have to be cleared on the way to the rock face or the via ferrata. The sole of approach boots is equipped with a climbing zone for this purpose. The zone facilitates easier movement during small scrambling sections.

Generalist Approach routes often vary significantly. For the boot to perfectly meet every challenge, it should be designed with a broad range of uses in mind.

Sole rigidity You need to have stable footing when you venture across rough terrain. The soles of your boots need to have a certain degree of stiffness to perform this job.

Resoling LOWA boots sold in the MOUNTAINEERING and TREKKING categories are designed in a way during the development phase that they can be resoled. This process will extend their service life and make a strong contribution to sustainability.

Via ferrata High performance even on the smallest ledges.

“When I set off on a via ferrata, sure-footedness is what I need most. A single careless step can quickly produce a disastrous result. Then again, this is what gets your juices flowing sometimes as well.”

Generalist As a rule of thumb, a good via ferrata boot is a generalist. After all, the route covers not just steps carved into rock and ladders, but also classic mountain trails, meadows and hiking paths.

Torsional stability Climbers who are taking long tours or have to cover difficult passages need secure footing. This is why via ferrata boots offer exceptional torsional stability and give wearers firm footing even when they are carrying a full load.

I-LOCK Special fastening hooks divide the lacing system into two zones so they can be independently locked in place.

FLEXFIT® Increased flexibility of the upper for pleasant walking.

TWO ZONE LACING The forefoot and upper area can be laced in varying degrees of tightness.

C4-TONGUE Special tongue construction with asymmetric padding for even pressure distribution.

WOMEN LAST Lasts specially adapted to the anatomy of women’s feet.

PADDED EDGING The padded edging is softer and more flexible because of women’s lower calf muscles.

ANATOMICAL FIT The midsole has been specially adapted to the anatomy of the foot.

SLINGSHOT Stretched rubber, a feature taken from the realm of climbing, improves heel fit.

High-altitude tours Technically optimised down to the very last detail.

“As I only move about on foot – with crutches – during my summer projects and do without with mobility aids, the shoes I wear must be genuine all-rounders. I always climb from the lowest point in the valley up to the summit. This means my ascent takes me through the uplands into the high mountains. For reasons of weight, I can’t take several pairs of shoes with me. My shoe should therefore be comfortable and flexible to wear in the valley, should steady me on rocky ground and ice, and support me in using my strength.”
