15.03.2016 | In March 2016, it was that time again: the crème de la crème of German-speaking professional alpinists met in Jetzendorf, Bavaria, to discuss new product innovations with the LOWA development and marketing team. The athletes of the LOWA PRO Team were also informed about the new social media strategy, in order to successfully master digital challenges in the future.
Sounds firstAfterthe developers from LOWA sat down with some of the big names in the mountain sports scene in November for an initial intensive exchange of experiences, the time had come again in March: the athletes of the LOWA PRO Team met again in Jetzendorf to talk shop about the product highlights planned for 2017 and to find out about LOWA's new social media strategy.
THE LOWA PRO TEAM FAMILY
As with the winter summit meeting, this workshop was also characterised by an almost informal atmosphere. People just know each other and there are no fears of contact anyway. As a result, the pros were also able to chat to each other about their latest adventures and planned expeditions. Athletes such as Stefan Glowacz, Ines Papert and Rudi Hauser greeted each other with a hug and a handshake, as if they had just mastered a difficult redpoint ascent together the day before. Even extreme mountaineer Ralf Dujmovits didn't miss the opportunity to visit his colleagues despite his lack of time. After all, he is currently preparing for an unclimbed seven-thousander in Pakistan and is touring Germany with his lecture series. Alix von Melle and Luis Stitzinger proved that even professionals have to deal with everyday problems. The two extreme mountaineers joined the group of alpinist experts after a delay due to dust and completed the cosy get-together.
The aim of the second workshop was once again to have a direct dialogue at eye level and to discuss innovative new products that LOWA intends to launch on the market in the coming mountain sports season. But before the first prototypes could even be scrutinised, Michael Frank first presented LOWA's new marketing and social media strategy to the athletes, in which the professionals also play a decisive role.
THE FRUITS OF LABOUR
But the digital world is only half the truth for real alpinists. For them, real life has to be tangible. Just like the prototypes that Alex Nicolai then presented to the athletes. Once again, the former head of the development team and current Managing Director of LOWA presented selected highlights from the new 2017 collection, some of which were developed in collaboration with the pros. In addition to the ALPINE PRO GTX, an alpine boot with a shortened toe, which primarily incorporates the experience of extreme mountaineer David Göttler, the APPROACH PRO GTX LO, an approach boot with innovative Speed Lacing technology and two-zone lacing, which was inspired by Luis Stitzinger, was also presented. The new ROCKET climbing shoe model, on the other hand, which was designed primarily for professionals and ambitious amateur athletes, aroused the greatest interest. A wide-ranging potpourri was presented to the alpinists, underlining LOWA's usual innovative strength.
The prototypes were once again highly praised and admired. At one point or another, suggestions for optimisation were made, which Alex Nicolai was happy to accept. However, there was not much to criticise, as the development team had already listened carefully at the first workshop and registered the various wishes and comments of the alpine experts. And the result of this constructive discussion is really something to be proud of. Many a prototype and certainly other LOWA models will go on tour this year together with the athletes of the LOWA PRO Team.
