Marco Wildhaber

LOWA TRAIL RACERS Team

Born and raised in Flums, Marco Wildhaber has his roots deep in the Swiss mountains. He has now lived in Thusis, Graubünden, for two years, having previously spent some time in the picturesque Bernese Oberland. As a building plumber, he not only has a knack for precision work, but also a passion for sport that has accompanied him since childhood.

Marco's greatest successes speak for themselves: in 2023, he came fourth in the Swiss Championships on the Madrisa Trail. But that was just the beginning: he was crowned King of the Gorge at the Transviamala 2023 and 2024 and took an impressive sixth place at the Aletsch Half Marathon 2024.

  • Originally, Marco was a passionate biker until he joined a team with Skimo in 2011 to find a balance. His first run was a small village run, which laid the foundation for his love of trail and mountain sports. This passion not only challenged him physically, but also changed his outlook on life. Sport has helped Marco to develop a positive attitude and to enjoy life despite intensive training.

His favourite experiences include his very first victory in a trail race and an alpine tour two years ago, during which he completed the "Spaghetti Tour" and climbed a total of 18 four-thousand-metre peaks.

12 questions for Marco

    • Do you have any tips for people who want to start trail running?

"Not too long distances, so you can enjoy nature every day and do something good for your body. Sometimes less is more."

    • How do you overcome your inner couch potato during training?

"Be polysporty, add variety and don't look at your watch all the time."

    • What do you do just before a competition? Is there a special ritual?

"Nothing special...except that I could almost fall asleep from time to time :)."

    • What's the first thing you do when you reach the finish line?

      "Congratulations and enjoy the atmosphere."

    • Do you have a role model?

    • What does your perfect day look like?

"Get up comfortably, head out into the mountains or nature and then spend a cosy day with your girlfriend."

    • What does happiness mean to you?

    • In what way do you perhaps enjoy life more than others?

"Skiing in winter and alpine skiing in summer. And biking."

    • Which tour or running route can you recommend? And why?
