This tour from LOWA focuses on the Kluisberg. This mountain - or rather hill - is located in the Flemish Ardennes and is 141 metres high. You start your hike in the village of Kluisbergen. Don't let the village of Mont-de-l'Enclus, which means the same thing in French, throw you off track. It is located directly on the Walloon side of the border.
You can reach Kluisbergen by bus or drive to the car park at the start of the hike. Incidentally, the name Kluisberg is said to come from a hermitage located in the forest.
Shortly after leaving the village, you will have a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding area. You can stop off at a café on the way, but it's actually better to find a picnic spot along the way. That way you can enjoy the view in peace and quiet.
Another nice place to take a break is the artists' village of Kwaremont. Nowadays you can visit three galleries there. If you are more interested in nature, walk a little further to the 111 metre high Oude Kwaremont hill.
Enjoy the view for a while, because a few kilometres further on you'll plunge back into the Kluisbos and head for the highest point of the day: the Kluisberg. From there, it's only a short distance to the car park, which you can also reach by bus if necessary.
Would you like to spend a weekend? There is a campsite in Kluisbergen and a handful of hotels nearby.
