Are you ready to conquer the highest point in Belgium with LOWA? Good, because that's what's on the programme for this tour to the Signal de Botrange. You start this 18-kilometre hike at a bus stop, but we still recommend that you drive to the starting point by car, where there is also a car park. It's much easier and you can get behind the wheel straight away.
Close to the start and finish point is La Baraque Michel, a hut that was built on this site in 1812 and converted into a hostel a few years later. Here you can relax after your hike with a snack and a drink.
But first you walk past the small chapel in the direction of the High Fens, which you cross on a long boardwalk. But that's not the only special and mystical thing about this hike. How about the wooden cross that commemorates a young couple who drowned here in winter? Or the beech trees Les Six Hèstres, which are more than 250 years old?
After around 13 kilometres, you will reach the literal highlight of your hike, the Signal de Botrange, the highest point in Belgium at 694 metres. It is also known as Baltia Hill, after the lieutenant who built a staircase on the hill. He couldn't stand the fact that the highest point in the country was just under 700 metres, so he artificially raised it.
