Wide beaches, wild waves, steep cliffs - and a small path that meanders persistently along these very beaches and slowly disappears into the distance. At 1,014 km, the South West Coast Path on the south coast of England is the longest long-distance hiking trail in the UK and one of my absolute favourite walks. It is well marked and not technically difficult, but demands a lot from you in terms of fitness. After all, you have to climb around 35,000 metres in altitude over its entire length! In theory, the trail is accessible all year round, but the best times are May and June as well as September and October. And of course it is also perfect for day trips or shorter multi-day tours.
