The famous Alpspitz Ferrata is an impressive and very well-known via ferrata through the north face of the 2,628 metre high Alpspitze. The route can be reached quickly via the cable car up to Osterfelder and offers unique views down into the landscape of the Wetterstein mountains as far as the neighbouring Karwendel. The via ferrata is also suitable for less experienced climbers.
Tour tip: The descent via the eastern flank of the Alpspitze is also a real highlight. Although the route is not secured and is therefore more challenging than the ascent, the views of the Stuibensee lake and the Grieskar are worth the effort. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon, you can observe large herds of chamois in the surrounding cirques - but always keep your distance!
Ascent: An early ascent with the Alpspitzbahn cable car to Osterfelder is recommended. From the mountain station, the path leads directly to the foot of the wall without having to climb many metres in altitude. The first third of the via ferrata is clearly visible right from the start. The long row of staples is particularly striking. After a few ladders and rope-insured passages for practising, the route leads through rocky terrain until the via ferrata, which is secured throughout, continues upwards through the north face in an impressive route. Shortly before the summit, the climb becomes steeper once again.
Descent: The descent is first via the east flank and then via the north face climb to the starting point. The descent via the ferrata is not recommended, especially when there is a large crowd, due to the risk of falling rocks.
