Heimgarten crossing

Ohlstadt's local mountain offers a varied hike with fantastic views of the Wetterstein, Karwendel and Alpine foothills as well as the turquoise-blue Walchensee.

The paths are relatively steep and strenuous, so you should be in good physical condition.

The tour starts in front of the LOWA test centre "DIE BERGFÜHRER" in Ohlstadt, following the signs to Heimgarten/Wankhütte/Rauheck. The path climbs gently at first and then soon becomes a beautiful path that climbs steeply upwards. You quickly gain height and get a marvellous view over Ohlstadt to Murnau am Staffelsee.

From the Wankhütte, we leave the forest and follow the signs towards Heimgarten. At the summit of the Heimgarten, the view opens up towards the Karwendel, Hirschberg, Kochelsee and Walchensee lakes. The descent is via the Bärenfleckhütte and the old castle ruins "Veste Schaumburg" back to Ohlstadt.
