The route starts at the north-west gate of the monastery complex in St. Blasien. The route goes through this gate, past the Haus des Gastes and the tourist information centre to the crossroads. Here you follow the signposts towards Todtmoos. Following the Schluchtensteig signs, you soon have a beautiful view over St. Blasien. The trail runs uphill on paths and wider tracks to the Lehenkopf tower. The Schluchtensteig trail continues through pastureland and alternates between meadows and forest. Past the picturesque monastery pond, up to the Kreuzfelsen viewpoint, you can soon enjoy the marvellous view over the municipality of Ibach. On the panoramic trail around Ibach, you reach the summit cross on the Schluchtensteig trail. You can marvel at the fantastic view over the wide landscape. From here, you head back into the forest on a narrow, rustic path downhill into the Wehratal valley. The Schluchtensteig trail zigzags steeply down into the Hohwehra gorge. Accompanied by the Wehra, you reach Todtmoos.
