From the Wank, the world is at your feet. Nowhere is the view of the Zugspitze massif and Werdenfelser Land better. And the numerous hiking trails are simply marvellous and also suitable for families.
The beauty of the Wank is that it offers something for every taste. If you like, you can start in the valley in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and hike from the north, south, east or west to the Estergebirge's showpiece summit. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, take the ancient Wankbahn cable car to the middle station and find the right hiking trail from there. But you can also start at the summit, enjoy the view early in the morning and later a hearty snack in the Sonnenalm. As I said, the Wank has something for everyone.
Tour tip: The ascent from the Gschwandtnerbauer mountain inn via the Roßwank can be used either as an ascent or a descent. Either way, the Gschwandtnerbauer with its rustic inn invites you to linger. The route over the Roßwank leads through a real primeval forest. An absolute highlight for all nature lovers, as places like this are very rare nowadays.
Ascent: The ascent begins at the car park below the Gschwandtnerbauer mountain inn and leads to the inn in just a few minutes. The path then becomes steeper in the forest and leads along a stream to the transition to the Kaltwassergraben. From there, the trail leads over rocky steps with magnificent views of the summit plateau of the Roßwank and Wank.
Descent: Either take the same route back or take the cable car to the middle station and cross the sparse pine forests back to the starting point.
