The Upper Engadin lake landscape, the surrounding mountains and the special light have inspired and almost magically attracted many great artists. " I feel as if I am in the land of promise. I want to stay here for a long time," wrote Friedrich Nietzsche. " It is not easy for me to speak of happiness, but I almost believe I am happy here, " said Thomas Mann. Greats such as Ferdinand Hodler, Max Ernst, Marc Chagall, Joseph Beuys and Giovanni Segantini have depicted the Engadin on canvas. After Segantini's death, many people "made a pilgrimage" to the last place of his work, the Schafberg above Pontresina. The fascination for the place and the special light still cast a spell over visitors today. But also those who spend more time on the mountain than anyone else - as our brief meeting with Martina Tscharner, warden of the Segantini hut, and Selina Niggli from Unterer Schafberg shows. This speed hiking tour, which can also be hiked as a leisurely pleasure tour, leads past the historic Unterer Schafberg mountain restaurant to the summit of the Munt da la Bês-cha, where the Segantini hut stands with its panoramic views. From the Muottas Muragl mountain restaurant, you can also enjoy an incomparable view of the Upper Engadin lakes before taking the funicular railway back down to the valley.
