This cross-border hike of 137 km connects the 11 Dutch and Belgian Meuse municipalities in the Meuse Valley River Park and takes you through the most beautiful landscapes and cosy villages. The walk was voted 'Best Hiking Route in the Benelux' in April 2021.
Over the centuries, the Meuse has shaped a varied and fascinating landscape in Limburg. It has created a maze of old river courses, incised meanders, dykes and floodplains as well as typical fauna and flora. Historic towns and impressive villages bear witness to a past that is intertwined with the Meuse. Put on your walking boots and discover the new cross-border (tourist-recreational) nature reserve Rivierpark Maasvallei on this multi-day hike.
Route to Sittard
The municipality of Sittard-Geleen is also partly located in the RivierPark Maasvallei, as are the fishing villages of Grevenbicht and Obbicht. There is a special access route from Sittard that takes you right into the centre of the RivierPark. So start the RivierPark Maasvallei long-distance walk from Sittard and end it on the historic market square for a bite to eat and a drink. You can start from various locations. If you come by car, park directly under the market square or at Limbricht Castle and start your route there. If you come by train, you can start from the railway station in Sittard.
