RE-CRAFT - materials get a new life

Products made from leather & textile remnants – handcrafted in Germany

A fresh perspective can be enough to give existing materials new meaning. Inspired by the principles of upcycling, RE‑CRAFT gives selected materials a second life – transforming them into unique products with character and history. At the LOWA headquarters in Jetzendorf, these materials are turned into handcrafted accessories shaped by experience, precision, and true craftsmanship. Every design is intentional, every detail considered. And every product reveals how much potential lies in materials that would otherwise remain unused.

  • The idea behind re-craft

At LOWA, we believe that using resources responsibly is part of our corporate responsibility. In our day‑to‑day work, we regularly encounter remnant pieces or materials that are only used temporarily: advertising banners, leather with small marks, cut‑offs, or leftovers that don’t fit into serial production. For us, it’s not waste — but the beginning of something new.

  • Rethinking instead of throwing away

Our ambition remains clear: avoid waste wherever possible. Yet even with careful planning, die-cut remnants and leather offcuts inevitably arise—materials unsuited to traditional shoe production. That’s exactly where Re‑Craft comes in, transforming these leftovers into something new.

  • Craftsmanship and people

Re‑Craft is built on deep experience — and just as much heart. From design and product management to corporate responsibility, production, sourcing, and marketing, many teams work side by side. This sense of togetherness defines Re‑Craft. It strengthens collaboration, brings variety into manufacturing, and keeps craftsmanship alive.

At the heart of Re‑Craft is product designer Kristin, who has shaped the project from the very beginning. With a sure eye for form, function, and aesthetics, she turns every material into a new product concept.

Re‑Craft is not a project driven by profit maximization. It is a project driven by creativity, community — and craftsmanship in action.

From Trash to Treasure

  • Selection

We start with what’s left: leather with minor imperfections, cut‑offs, banner fabrics. Each material is assessed to determine how it can be used best.

  • Design

From these selected materials, a new idea emerges: we combine shapes, colors, and textures so that leftovers become functional and aesthetically pleasing products.

  • Manufacturing

At our Jetzendorf workshop, each piece is made by hand – with precision, experience, and attention to detail.

  • Favourite Pieces

Exclusive designs and limited availability – and that is what makes Re-Craft special: character over perfection.

The RE‑CRAFT products – limited designs

Our Re‑Craft collection is made from leather and textile leftovers with a visible past. Small imperfections, marks, irregularities? Absolutely intentional. They’re exactly what makes every piece unique.

Typical components such as eyelets, rivets, laces, or textile straps are used with purpose — the same details that define our footwear. Because we always work with whatever material is available at the time, each piece is naturally limited. Colours and surfaces may vary — not as flaws, but as a trace of where they come from.

The result: high‑quality lifestyle products and accessories — functional, clean, crafted with real attention to detail.

As diverse as the materials themselves is the Re‑Craft collection. The rule is simple: go find out. That’s how even the smallest remnants turn into everyday companions with real value. Today, the range spans from spacious bags to practical daily essentials and small giveaways.

  • Our tote bags provide plenty of space and clear functionality. Made from durable leather remnants, they become versatile everyday carry‑alls – ideal for work, the city, or spontaneous adventures.

The Flag Bags make a bold statement. Crafted from former advertising banners, they carry visible traces of their past: graphic elements, colors, textures. Each bag is a true one‑of‑a‑kind piece, transforming former advertising surfaces into modern, durable everyday companions.

The Accessory Bags make use of the smallest leftover materials. With laces and shoe eyelets as closures, they bring order to your everyday life.

  • Premium

  • Essentials

  • From smaller remnants, more practical companions emerge: iPad sleeves that protect your devices, pencil cases that create order at school, work, or university, sunglasses cases that are robust yet lightweight, and key pouches that securely store small essentials. They are complemented by versatile textile bags that can be folded, stored, and used flexibly in daily life.

  • From the tiniest leftover pieces, we create practical accessoires: coasters made from sturdy leather remnants that add a unique touch to any table, and keychains that make meaningful use of small material pieces while providing a subtle statement for sustainability.

FAQ about RE-CRAFT

    • Where can I buy LOWA RE‑CRAFT products?

RE‑CRAFT products are currently available exclusively in our Schöffel‑LOWA stores. In the future, selected items will also be available in our online shop – stay tuned for updates on launch dates and availability.

    • Why are quantities limited?

We work exclusively with leftover materials. Therefore, the number of items depends on the materials available and cannot be increased arbitrarily.

    • Why aren’t all products always available?

RE‑CRAFT follows the materials that are currently on hand, and our primary goal is to avoid material waste. This means certain products are only produced in small batches or as one‑offs.

    • What makes RE‑CRAFT special?

Each product is a unique piece made from leftover materials – combined with meticulous craftsmanship. RE‑CRAFT brings together sustainability, design, and community.

    • How are RE‑CRAFT products made?

Some pieces are produced in our workshop in Jetzendorf, while selected items are crafted by Lebenshilfe in precise manual work. This allows us to combine high‑quality workmanship with social responsibility.

    • Why does nearly every RE‑CRAFT product look different?

Because every leftover material is different. Small color variations, individual structures, and unique details make each piece distinctive – that’s the character of RE‑CRAFT.

    • What is the difference between upcycling and recycling?

Recycling breaks materials down into their basic components before reprocessing them.
Upcycling keeps the material in its original form and creatively upgrades it.  An example from our RE‑CRAFT collection: our bags made from old advertising banners are classic upcycling – we reuse the banner fabric directly and give it a new life without shredding or reprocessing it.
