Just after Solnhofen, the trail leads along the Twelve Apostles - one of the highlights. After Esslingen, you cross the river and walk along a quarry. You then cross another mountain ridge with great views before reaching the Altmühltal valley again at Altendorf. Here, the hiking trail continues along the valley slope to the stage destination of Dollnstein.
