Following in the footsteps of King Ludwig, you hike through lovely alpine landscapes to a viewpoint personally selected by the king. Here, for once, the path is not the goal - because to reach the destination, you have to take some forest roads. If you have an e-bike, you can definitely shorten these passages and then concentrate fully on the destination, the Königshaus am Schachen. This is always worth a trip and is therefore well known beyond the country's borders!
Tour tip: The Königshaus am Schachen is not only the highest castle in Germany, but also a popular excursion destination for day trippers in the region. This unique spot in the middle of the Wetterstein mountains offers a fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding mountain ranges and, thanks to the restaurant at the Schachenhaus, is also a great place to stop for a bite to eat.
Ascent: There are two ways to get up here. On the one hand, you can start by e-bike from Elmau on the forest road towards Schachen, or you can walk through the Partnachklamm gorge and continue along the Kälbersteig trail to the ridge of the Schachen.
Descent: The descent from the Schachenhaus can either be via the two ascents or even through the Oberreintal, the well-known climbing mecca, down to the Bockhütte and back to the starting point. Only the forest road is recommended for e-bikes.
