LOWA Ambassadors

Janis Hager was born in Therwil (BL) in August 1993. Even as a young boy, he was a sports enthusiast and initially let off steam playing football. He then had his first "real" contact with the mountains at a WWF climbing camp in Melchsee-Frutt. From then on, he was fully committed to the mountains:

Janis joined the SAC Angenstein section, took part in various tours there and got a taste of high altitude at the age of 16 on his first four-thousand metre peak, Piz Bernina. He was also able to hone his sport climbing skills at the Northwestern Switzerland Regional Centre for Sport Climbing.

In between, Janis went to business school and completed his commercial vocational baccalaureate. After a one-year internship, he took a job as a mountain sports consultant at Bächli Bergsport, where Janis still works part-time today.

  • Janis filled his free time with all forms of alpinism: In addition to sport climbing, he also discovered ice and mixed climbing in winter, undertook numerous mountain and climbing tours with friends, worked as a ski instructor in Engelberg in the 2011/2012 winter season and took on the role of tour leader in his SAC section. This intensive contact with the mountain world inevitably triggered in him the desire to turn his great passion into a profession and to inspire other people for the beauty of the mountains as a mountain guide.

In 2014, Janis climbed in the Dolomites for the first time and was blown away by this unique landscape and the majestic peaks. Without further ado, he decided to start training as a mountain guide in South Tyrol. This varied and challenging training programme enabled him to get to know a completely new mountain landscape and broaden his mountaineering horizons.
