  • "LOWA saved my life. In 1988, I was hit by a landslide together with a friend. I escaped death and after 10 weeks in a hospital in New Zealand, I suffered severe damage to my foot. Since then I have been dependent on a splint to be able to use my foot. But I have an active lifestyle - gardening, mountain biking, hiking - and I just can't do it in normal shoes. I'm in pain, too much pain. But not with the LOWA LADY III GTX. They have been my only pair of shoes for more than 30 years, and my braces have been specially adapted to them. i've now worn out 7 pairs and I'm already looking forward to the next pair. Next year I will return to New Zealand. Now with my husband, and ready to hike the Milford & Routeburn Track."

Even though Anita's leg never fully recovered after the accident, her adventurous spirit has remained. An inspiration in itself, and the fact that LOWA shoes can contribute to Anita's active lifestyle is of course great.

Anita van Gastel,

WHEN DID YOU START HIKING?

"I was in Switzerland for the first time when I was 16. I didn't realise it at the time, but I had always loved the mountains. I then really started hiking in England, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries."

WHY IS HIKING SO IMPORTANT TO YOU?

"It makes me happy"

WHAT MADE YOU CONTINUE TO SEEK ADVENTURE DESPITE THE VIOLENT EVENT?

"Adventure is a part of me."

WHAT DOES YOUR PERFECT HIKE LOOK LIKE?

"A place where I can feel at one with nature. The mountains with snow, the forest with ferns and lots of water, the desert with its sand dunes!"
