LOWA ACTIVE TEAM
Tobias Karpinski is a semi-exotic member of the LOWA ACTIVE team. Born in the Allgäu region - a child of the mountains, which is not uncommon. But he didn't go up high in his childhood or youth, because in the mountains Tobi was mostly out and about on his mountain bike. On flatter terrain, he sometimes rode a motorcross bike or motorbike. He only discovered climbing relatively late in life, at the age of 21 to be precise. But now he is all the more passionate about it. "After my first day of climbing, I was immediately captivated by this wonderful sport."
He is now even a state-certified mountain and ski guide. Of course, this can only work with an accommodating job, Tobi works as a "part-time construction technician", and with the sacrifice of almost all of his remaining free time. Both were put to the test, especially during the project in the middle of 2016. Together with three mountaineering friends, he travelled to the Ruth Glacier in Alaska. Here, they spent five weeks on Mount Bradley and Mount Johnson, climbing new lines for the first time and repeating existing routes.
FACTS & DATA
Tobias Karpinski,
Do you have a role model?
"No one person directly. But I find the achievements of earlier mountaineers such as Anderl Heckmair, Hermann Buhl or Emilio Comici impressive. It's amazing to me what these alpinists achieved with poor equipment compared to today."
WHAT OTHER HOBBIES DO YOU Pursue?
"I don't have much time apart from mountaineering, training and work. But when I do have time, I like to read an exciting book."
IS THEREA MISSION FOR YOU?
"I like Reinhard Karl's quote "You're never really at the top". Short but with a lot of content."
