LOWA ACTIVE TEAM
Josef "Steno" Pfnür does not necessarily describe himself as a sport climber, but the interests of the Berchtesgaden native are too varied for that. In addition to rock climbing, he loves to be out and about in the snow and on ice, for example ice climbing or ski touring. But he is also fascinated by travelling to faraway countries, especially the many different cultures to be discovered. Being outdoors has a special significance for him, "because," he says, "you forget about everyday life and get away from work in your mind.
Just how big was demonstrated on his trip to Madagascar, where he was able to realise two first ascents as part of the team, as well as on the final expedition of the DAV expedition squad to Kyrgyzstan, which was an experience for several reasons. It was not only the successful first ascent of two 5,000 metre peaks that challenged the team, but also the loss of two pieces of expedition luggage. For example, the expedition doctor came to the rescue right at the beginning by lending his shoes. "We tried to buy more equipment, but nobody in Kyrgyzstan wears size 46 shoes," Josef recalls.
The next destination has not yet been decided. Such decisions have to be carefully considered. Because as much fun as Josef Pfnür has on his expeditions, they will always remain a hobby for him.
