In addition to the sporting challenge, he is particularly keen to find out as much as possible about the mountain and the region itself in advance of his expeditions. "Mountain sports still allow me to satisfy my curiosity for adventurous travelling, to get to know other people and cultures and to test my own limits."

RALF DUJMOVITS,

HOW HAS SPORT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?
"Sport has been completely normal since childhood and has always been an important part of my everyday life. When I trained as a mountain guide and decided to become a professional mountain climber, mountaineering and training took centre stage. Even today, my everyday life is still characterised by climbing, mountaineering and being out and about in sport."

DO YOU HAVE A TIP FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO START MOUNTAIN SPORTS?
"Grow into mountaineering slowly! Mountaineering is not like playing golf and has a completely different risk potential. Getting through the Sturm und Drang years accident-free takes a lot of time to gain experience. Your guardian angel also needs a bit of room to manoeuvre."

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU ON YOUR EXPEDITIONS? What could you never do without?
"One or more books, now e-books, are always with me. They provide variety at base camp during periods of bad weather and often offer interesting topics of conversation."
