EXTREME CLIMBING ADVENTURE

LOWA PRO TEAM

Even as a small child, Robert Jasper played "mountaineer on expedition" on the snow cornices of the Black Forest. In his early 20s, the professional alpinist had already soloed more than 100 of the most difficult routes on the north faces of the Alps - some of them as first ascents.

  • Robert Jasper caused a public sensation when he solo climbed the three largest north faces in the Alps (Eiger, Matterhorn and Grandes Jorasses) in record time within a year.
In 2003, he was voted the world's most successful mixed climber by the German-language magazine "Klettern". Every tour is unique for the extreme mountaineer. But in the Alps, he is always drawn to the north face of the Eiger. For him, it is a place of personal goals, passion, adventure, danger and the ultimate sporting challenge. the first nomination for the Piolet d'Or, "the Oscar of alpinism", followed in 2005.

Today, his expeditions take him to the most remote mountains in the world, to the Everest region in the Himalayas, Baffin Island, Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia and Greenland. He has appeared in a number of films and documentaries and starred in his solo short film "Alone". He is also a speaker for executives from the international business world.

ROBERT JASPER,

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR TOURS? IS THEREA SPECIAL RITUAL?
"With intensive planning. On the one hand, this includes targeted training and preparatory tours in the Alps, and on the other, mental preparation with my project. I try to recognise all mistakes and risk factors in advance and prepare for them. Only when my inner voice gives me the OK do I set off! Great experience and cautious behaviour are essential for extreme expeditions!"

WHAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT A DESTINATION?
"During my extreme climbs, I realised that you never really reach the summit or your final destination - life is a journey. For me, the summits are the icing on the cake, the crowning glory of an expedition. But it's much more important to climb a great wall. The route or the challenging route is my goal. I experience a huge adventure, especially on a first ascent, I climb through the unknown and that is exciting! Enjoying life and being passionate about what you do, I think that's the most important thing! When I return to civilisation after an expedition, I keep my adventures inside me. My own personal treasure!"

HOW DO YOU OVERCOME YOUR INNER PIG DOG WHEN TRAINING?
"With enthusiasm and passion! When you have a goal in mind, the hard stuff is much easier!"

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIP FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO START MOUNTAIN SPORTS?
"I would highly recommend a good basic training programme with a state-certified mountain and ski guide!"
