15.03.2018 | When it comes to developing alpine boots, LOWA relies on the support of its top athletes. They test the shoes in the most remote corners of the world. The demands of the professionals on the LOWA development team are correspondingly high. For their expeditions, athletes always need footwear that fulfils the highest requirements.
TOGETHER TO THE SUMMIT
The company headquarters in Jetzendorf, Bavaria, therefore regularly becomes a very special venue: a number of world-famous, exceptional German athletes from the LOWA PRO Team meet the development team. However, the real stars of the meeting are others: The alpine boots from LOWA.
EXPERT DIALOGUE
Plan ahead and be flexible
In discussions with the athletes, it quickly becomes clear what high demands are placed on high-end mountain boots. The athletes act as valuable advisors, discussing details, advantages and limits with the developers. The requirements of the athletes and the vision of the development department were combined in a new, innovative product line in 2017. The ALPINE PRO GTX, APPROACH PRO GTX LO and ROCKET models marked the launch of the LOWA Performance collection.
The ALPINE SL was developed in collaboration with David Göttler. The aim was to save as much weight as possible. Hence the full name "Alpine Super Light". Göttler turned to the LOWA development team with the desire for an extremely lightweight alpine boot that could still cope with the difficult conditions on the mountain. The experts designed a boot for him with an integrated gaiter to prevent snow from penetrating. The special highlight: the boot was reduced to the essentials. However, the lightweight mountain boot still has a stable sole for alpine use. During his expedition, the athlete subjected his "Alpine Super Light" to an absolute endurance test - and the boot passed the test with flying colours. The knowledge gained was subsequently incorporated into the development of the successor model.
LOWA has a long tradition of working with professional athletes. The outdoor company has been supporting their expedition work for many years. The LOWA PRO Team now comprises eleven athletes from Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. In addition to mountaineering greats Ralf Dujmovits, Stefan Glowacz, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Hans Kammerlander, Alix von Melle and Luis Stitzinger, the team also includes climbing professionals Ines Papert, Robert Jasper and Rudi Hauser. Paragliding pilot Chrigel Maurer also flies under the LOWA glider. In addition to their role as development advisors, the LOWA PRO team athletes are above all important brand ambassadors. They climb the highest mountains in the world in LOWA shoes and venture into previously undiscovered areas - providing the stories that inspire outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.
