The microadventures of our adventurers

ADVENTURER ON TOUR

If you want to experience something, you don't always have to travel to faraway countries. There are often numerous opportunities to explore nature and experience adventures right on your doorstep - and all for free. If you still don't have any ideas about where to go: No problem!

We have sent out our adventurers and collected new ideas and important tips for you so that you can start your next micro-adventure.

RIVER TRACKING

Patricia Krall

Where can I do this?

You can do your river tracking without much effort wherever there is a river. The great thing about a hike like this is that you don't have to make any effort to plan a route, as the river sets the course. The aim is to stay as close to the river as possible without straying from the prescribed route.

What do I need for this?

We recommend wearing sturdy hiking boots for this adventure. As it can quickly get wet on a hike along the river, these should ideally also be waterproof. You should also wear appropriate clothing for the weather and carry a small rucksack with provisions and drinks.

How much time do I need to plan for this?

One advantage of this microadventure is that you can organise it flexibly in terms of time. As there is no fixed route, you can organise the scope as you wish. Depending on your mood, you can turn around at any time or, if possible, walk back on the other side of the river. It's entirely up to you whether you only want to hike for half an hour or spend the whole day by the water!

Have we made you curious? - Our microinfluencer Patricia has already tested the adventure:

"My personal microadventure is a two-hour hike along the Isar in Munich. To get off to a sporty start, I rode my bike to the Isar, left it there at the Flaucher and hiked from there towards the zoo and past it. If you don't have a bike, you can of course also take public transport to the Isar and set off from the relevant station. In principle, such a hike is not tied to the Isar, but can be done anywhere. However, the route around the Flaucher and further out of the city is very beautiful and recommended for such an extended walk. Besides, it's always fun to walk along the water. In the colder months of the year, you'll definitely need warm clothing, ideally a rucksack with warm tea and a few snacks and, of course, sporty and comfortable shoes. The great thing about a tour like this is that you don't need to plan your time or make a long journey. The aim here is to make the most of the nature on your doorstep, and the duration and intensity of the hike can be chosen individually! The main thing is to be outside and enjoy the nature on your doorstep."

BIKE AND HIKE - BY BIKE TO THE MOUNTAIN

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FITNESS AND HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Where can I do this?

This combination of cycling and hiking is best done if you live near the mountains. That way you can enjoy nature before the hike even begins. But even if the nearest mountain is not within cycling distance, you can easily adapt the adventure - for example by cycling to the nearest lake and then hiking around the lake.

What do I need and how much time do I need to plan?

Get into your sports/outdoor gear, pack your rucksack, take your hiking boots, don't forget your bike helmet - and off you go! As you will probably be out and about for a few hours, it is also important to think about having enough to drink and a suitable snack. The exact length of your micro-adventure will of course depend on the route of your bike tour and the hike itself. You should avoid unnecessary luggage if possible - after all, the rucksack doesn't carry itself.

Who is the adventure suitable for?

This little adventure is definitely suitable for anyone who enjoys travelling by bike as well as on foot - whether with the whole family, friends or alone. And the best thing is that you can easily adjust the level of difficulty, the duration and your destination to suit your ability.

How much time do I need to plan for this?

That depends on how far the mountain is from your home and how long the hike itself will ultimately take. However, as it is a combination of two activities, we generally recommend planning half a day to a whole day for the adventure.

Just do as our microinfluencer Tamara did on her adventure:

"How lucky it is to live right in the mountains! I realised this once again with my new LOWA shoes during a microadventure. We spend our lives travelling so much, even though it's so beautiful at home and we have the mountains right on our doorstep. So why shouldn't I just get to know my local mountain, the Hochstaufen?

Shortly before midday, the home office computer is shut down. I'm in good shape, and so is the weather. My rucksack is already packed: Water, snacks, a change of clothes, a warm jacket, poles and crampons for the descent of the potentially icy snowfields. Off into the mountain gear and the new LOWA shoes - and off we go! I cycle the first few kilometres from my house to the hiking car park before continuing on foot along narrow forest paths, rocky terrain and through lots of snow. The shoes prove their worth on any terrain. Once I reach the summit, it's time to enjoy the peace and quiet. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the valley. As I sit in the sun, I look down to my house, about 1300 metres above sea level. A short holiday "dahoam" that couldn't be more beautiful."

ON THE TRAIL OF SNOW

Patricia Krall

Where and when can I do this?

This microadventure is best done in spring. If the city is still dreary and grey or spring has already arrived, then take a day to enjoy winter to the full! Pack up your best friends or family and drive together to the nearest area where there is still plenty of snow. You can go on a magical winter hike together!

What do I need for this?

As you will be spending a day in the snow, you should make sure you have warm, weatherproof clothing, waterproof hiking boots and plenty of hot tea. A rucksack for carrying provisions and the aforementioned hot drinks is highly recommended!

How much time do I need to plan for this?

That depends entirely on how far away your personal winter wonderland is from you and which tour you would like to do. The journey there and back can of course take some time and hiking up your favourite mountain or around a beautiful lake definitely takes a little longer in (deep) snow than in summer. With a journey, hike and break, this microadventure can quickly turn into a day trip. But the journey to your own little winter wonderland is definitely worth it!

Want an example? - Our microinfluencer Patricia went on a winter hike at Spitzingsee:

"On my microadventure, I went to Spitzingsee for a winter hike. With my two best friends, I travelled by train to Fischhausen-Neuhaus and from there by bus to Spitzingsee. Our winter hike to the Obere Firstalm started there. As there is still a lot of snow here in March, warm, snowproof clothing is highly recommended. Waterproof hiking boots are also a must for a winter hike! We also had rucksacks with food and warm drinks - which turned out to be a very good idea. Because at temperatures around freezing point, it can get pretty chilly without tea and hot chocolate. Including the journey to and from Munich, our trip took us around six hours. Enough time to enjoy the beautiful, snow-covered nature at Spitzingsee and the time with our best friends to the full!"

NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT

Pulse of freedom

Where can I do this?

A nearby forest in nature is ideal for this adventure - here you can gather countless impressions and there is so much to discover. Whether it's searching for a particular plant, balancing on a tree trunk or exploring various animal tracks - the forest provides you with the perfect conditions for your personalised scavenger hunt.

What do I need for this?

Above all, it is important that you plan the route and the stations of the scavenger hunt well in advance and explain the route to the participants as precisely as possible. For example, you can draw a treasure map or write a story about the route - both are particularly popular with children. Of course, you can also record the route as a GPX track and make it available. If your little adventure takes a little longer, you should also pack enough food and drink. Otherwise, put on your hiking boots and outdoor clothing and off you go!

Who is the adventure suitable for?

In general, the adventure is suitable for everyone, depending on the version. Whether as an exciting diversion for the kids or as a joint activity with the family or colleagues as a company event - consciously experiencing and discovering nature has its very own charm for everyone!

How much time do I need to plan for this?

The duration of the adventure can vary depending on the planned route and number of stops. The scavenger hunt can also be adapted to suit the participants and be presented in a shorter form for children, for example. As a rule of thumb, however, you can estimate about 1 hour for the pure walking time. Including the respective stations, you will then be out and about for 2-3 hours.

Extra tip:

The scavenger hunt and its stations can also be based on a specific motto (e.g. "Mindful through nature" or "On the trail of treasure"). This gives the whole search a special charm, especially with children. At the end of the tour, especially for children, a treasure hunt with a small surprise is the highlight and conclusion of the scavenger hunt.

TAKE A SPIN AROUND THE LAKE IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Berghawi

Where can you do it?

This adventure can start at any lake in your neighbourhood, whether it's a swimming lake or a mountain lake. So grab a map and discover the lakes in your neighbourhood. If the weather is right, there's nothing to stop you cooling off afterwards.

What do you need?

For this adventure, you will need good shoes, comfortable and weatherproof clothing, a rucksack with enough food, a little stamina depending on the size of the lake and, most importantly, enthusiasm for nature.

If you want to reward yourself with a little refreshment afterwards, you should definitely pack a bathing suit or at least a small towel.

How much time should you plan?

The timing is entirely up to you. You can "just" go for a quick walk around the lake or spend the whole day there and jump into the water, have a picnic or simply enjoy the sunshine. There are no limits here; you can easily vary the microadventure and adapt it to your own ideas.

SUNRISE TOUR

Sandra

Where can I do this?

You can do this adventure anywhere in your area, preferably on a mountain or hill with a clear view to the east. Simply grab a hiking map or app and look for viewpoints. The higher the better!

What do I need for this?

First of all, a working alarm clock, because as the name suggests, this is an adventure that starts early in the morning. Early risers therefore have a clear advantage here. As getting up early can be a little overwhelming for some people, we recommend making an appointment with a friend so that you can enjoy the sunrise together.

As it is still mostly dark, at least at the beginning, you should also remember to bring a headlamp or torch. Sturdy, comfortable and, if possible, waterproof shoes are also recommended, as the tour often leads across wet meadows and paths, especially in spring. You should bring functional clothing adapted to the weather conditions for the ascent as well as a change of clothes for the descent.

Also note: a hat and gloves as well as a warm jacket for the summit can also be useful, as it can still be unexpectedly cold at some altitudes, especially in spring. And of course, a tasty summit snack and tea/coffee are also essential for this adventure.

How much time do I need?

That depends entirely on the length of the planned tour. Depending on the exact time of sunrise at the chosen location, you will need to start early and allow enough time for the ascent. And of course you should also spend a little time at the summit before and after sunrise to enjoy the atmosphere on the mountain.

After the descent, you are often back home by mid-morning or midday and can use the rest of the day to relax and recuperate.

Extra tip:

Late working hours or early sunrise in midsummer? Even before work, this can be a deeply relaxing start to the day and is therefore absolutely suitable for everyday use.

Still need inspiration for your next sun salutation? - No problem, our microinfluencer Sandra has a few tips for you:

"I love watching the day wake up with a little (tea) sun salutation. Although it takes a lot of effort to set the alarm clock so early and even more to actually get up. But once you're on your way, the exertions are quickly forgotten and the sight of the pale pink sky and the landscape gradually bathed in golden light, the silence and peace, makes up for everything. An appointment can also help you to overcome your inner weaker self. Apart from that, all you need is a pair of hiking boots, a suitable vantage point, a head torch and ideally a pot of tea. I like to escape the early fog in the valleys by climbing several hundred metres in altitude, but I love the hill in my home town just as much for a spontaneous sunrise walk. Although it can take a few hours depending on the planned route (but doesn't have to, keyword: front door), the morning greeting has the great advantage that you can usually be home in time for breakfast and thus start the day deeply relaxed. Despite the lack of sleep, these have been by far my best days so far and they remind me that you don't have to travel far to experience the wonders of nature."

SUNDOWNER AT HOME

Carolin

Where can I do this?

Whether on a hill in your neighbourhood or relaxed on your own balcony - there are many different places to enjoy a sunset in peace. As the sun usually sets in the west, the chosen location should offer a clear view in this direction.

What do I need for this?

If you combine the sunset with a walk or a short hike, suitable hiking clothing, a rucksack with food, suitable, sturdy shoes and optional sunglasses are recommended.

How much time do I need to plan?

You can also vary the time required depending on the additional length of the hike and organise it flexibly. As the sunset itself usually only lasts a few minutes, it is advisable to be in position some time beforehand so that you can enjoy the colour changes in the sky in peace.

Extra tip: This adventure is often the ideal way to end the working day with a short walk and sunset.

GEOCACHING ON THE DOORSTEP

Lisa

What is that?

You've probably heard of this micro-adventure before. But what exactly is geocaching?

The aim is for a player to find a previously hidden object with the help of geographical coordinates and GPS - practically a "modern" scavenger hunt. Clues to the hidden treasure are entered into an online database where they can be accessed by other players. If the geocacher finds the item, they can keep it if they wish and exchange it for an item they have brought with them. This way, a new treasure is ready for the next player and the puzzle can begin anew.

Where can I do this?

Geocaching is the ideal way to discover and get to know your immediate surroundings much more consciously, precisely and in a completely new way. Whether it's the nearby forest, a place in the city or the park around the corner - there are many places that are perfect for this adventure.

What do I need for this?

To find your way to the hidden treasure, you will need a geocaching app or a suitable GPS device to help you in your search. As you obviously don't know in advance exactly where your tour will take you, sturdy shoes and suitable clothing are also recommended. You should also remember to bring a rucksack with a water bottle and other provisions for refreshments in between.

Geocaching as a microadventure? Our microinfluencer Lisa has tried it out:

"I love going on holiday, whether it's longer trips or short weekend getaways. As a result, I know certain areas better than my immediate surroundings. The current situation surrounding the pandemic and an exciting micro-adventure are set to change that! And what better way to explore your immediate surroundings than with geocaching? That's exactly what I set out to do today. My running route right on my doorstep takes me along beautiful forest paths on the so-called slow trail once or twice a week. But I run my standard route without any big surprises. There are countless mini-trails here that I have only noticed subconsciously at best. I was curious to see what geocaches were nearby - hopefully one at all. To my delight, however, there are three to be found. So after work, I grab my equipment, put on my new LOWA shoes - and off I go!

I make my way to the first geocache location through woods and meadows along some familiar paths. Okay, I've walked past here hundreds of times, but I would never have noticed a geocache here. But it was also well hidden! On to the next one - a viewpoint. I've often seen the sign to it on my runs - even there, but I've never been. Once I reach the top, I am totally overwhelmed - how beautiful it is here! However, the geocache was harder to find - it took me almost 20 minutes to discover it in a tree hollow. A real challenge! We continue along a mini trail to the last geocache. The path there is a real highlight - very enchanted and fantastically beautiful. Once I've found the last geocache, it's time to head back. The sun is slowly setting, giving me a wonderful view over the lake at the end.

ENJOY THE PEACE AND QUIET BY THE WATER

Viola

Where can I do that?

The motto for this adventure is: off to the water! Whether it's a lake, river or small stream - nowhere else can you unwind as well as by the water. Even a small pond is enough to listen to the water and replenish your energy reserves.

What do I need for this?

Depending on the weather, all you need is the right clothes and comfortable shoes. If you like, you can also take something to drink and a snack with you. And if you're thinking of cooling off in the lake or stream, you should of course also bring a pair of swimming trunks and a towel.

How much time do I need to plan?

One advantage of this microadventure is that you can organise it to suit your schedule. If you only have a short time during your lunch break, even a few minutes in the water will have a positive effect and you will immediately feel a little more balanced. Of course, it is also possible to go on day trips and combine your time by the water with a picnic, for example.

Extra tip:

The atmosphere at sunrise or sunset is often breathtaking by the water. Getting up early is just as worthwhile as waiting until the sun has set.

DIVE INTO ANOTHER WORLD

Viola

What is that?

Immerse yourself in another world, switch off your head and let yourself drift while you let yourself be guided by smells, sounds, colours and discoveries - that's forest bathing.

Where can I do this?

As the name suggests - in any forest or woodland near you.

What do I need for this?

This microadventure is really very easy to do. All you need is the right footwear, the right clothing and, depending on the duration of the adventure, a rucksack with drinks and other food. If you're not particularly familiar with the forest area you're in, a map definitely won't hurt.

Who is the adventure suitable for?

The adventure is suitable for anyone who enjoys spending time in the forest and has always wanted to explore the nature on their doorstep a little more closely. The fresh forest air and the many different sights and sounds are the perfect balance to a busy and stressful everyday life - give it a try!
